Registration for these noncredit courses is done through Southeastern Community College. To register and pay by phone, call SCC at 319.752.2731 or 1.866.722.4692. Alternatively, to register via email, send a message that includes your name, address, Social Security number, and phone numbers, plus SCC course title and number to exted@scciowa.edu. In accordance with SCC policy, payment of course fees must be made at least three days before the first class meeting. Unless otherwise noted, students must be at least 16 years old. Sampling Art: Get in Touch With Your Inner Child*
Get in touch with your inner child! Ever wonder what it’s like to paint with watercolors? Draw with soft pastels or oil pastels? How about playing with clay? Beginning Drawing*
An exploration in learning to draw what we see and an investigation of creativity. No drawing experience is necessary to take this class, only a desire to learn to draw. A material list will be provided. Clay Sculpture* *Cancelled*
Learn Amie Dunkin’s easy techniques for creating clay sculptures in three projects. Fold-over fish look like they just jumped out of the pond. A mask can be embellished to represent any theme. Photography*
For the serious digital camera user who wants to learn the camera’s manual functions, this four-session course is an overview of basics and a set of challenges for more-experienced photographers. Topics include technical camera settings, composition, and portrait lighting. The course format relies on specific assignments and kindly in-class critiques. Each student must bring a camera with manual settings. Pottery*
Students learn handbuilding and the use of slump molds to create pots, figures and tiles. There is also the opportunity to learn to use the potter’s wheel. Use of form, color and texture will be stressed. Watercolor*
Topics include basic supplies; developing a composition and planning a painting; tips on how to paint water, trees, sky, etc. There will be demonstrations on techniques such as wet-on-wet, dry brush, textures such as salt and Saran wrap, and other tricks of the trade. Get tips on handling mistakes, critiques, and shows. Outdoor Drawing*
Using pencils or pastels, improve your skills in depicting trees, buildings, skies, and perspective. The course is geared towards both beginners and advanced students and the use of pencils or pastels. The first class meets at 301 Jefferson Street; subsequent classes meet at various locations. Classes at Pat's Stained Glass

Glass classes are taught by Pat Latty and held at her studio eight miles north of Burlington on Irish Ridge Road. Students for these classes must be at least 18 years old.

Glass Beads FULL
Make your own glass beads using a HotHead torch, MAPP gas, and glass rods. Stained Glass*
Choose from an afternoon or evening section. This class is geared towards both beginners and advanced students. Beginners learn copper-foil methods of constructing glass panels, while advanced students choose from larger panels, boxes, kaleidoscopes, and panel lamps. Tabletop Mosaic Fountain
Utilize clay pots, saucers, and a glass mosaic of your own design to create a small fountain to use outdoors or indoors. Glass cutting experience is required. Supplies are available for purchase at the first class meeting for $60 and up, depending on the student’s choice of glass. • SCC section #21249 • Two sessions, 6 hours • Tuesdays, March 9 and 23 • 6:30 – 9:30 pm • Instructors: Pat Latty and Sue Kershner • Fee: $20 (does not include cost of supplies).

Stepping Stones
Make two 8-inch stepping stones, one of cement and the other of Diamond Crete. Pre-cut glass and other supplies are available for purchase at class for $25 to $30. Gazing Ball
Students use mosaic stained glass to transform an unloved bowling ball into a gazing ball for the garden. Previous glass cutting experience is required. Each student is expected to furnish his or her own bowling ball. Glass and other supplies are available for purchase at the class. • SCC section #21251 • Two sessions, 6 hours • Tuesdays, April 20 and 27 • 6:30 – 9:30 pm • Fee: $22 (does not include cost of supplies).
